Purpose built for our children

Feathers Early Learning Centre was purpose built in 2009 to provide child care and early childhood education in Massey. Reflecting our community, we’re proudly multi-cultural.

We look after children from 3 months to five years, from 7.30am-5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualified and caring childcare staff

Feathers is operated by Fang Yang. You’ll be able to deal directly with Fang on any administrative, educational or personal matters relating to your child and the centre itself.

We have a very stable staff complement, including teachers and a dedicated cook. Almost all our teachers are fully qualified for Early Childhood Education, while one or two are studying towards their qualification. In addition, all our teachers have current first aid certificates.

At Feathers, we keep our ratio of teachers to children better than the government’s recommended levels.

Each child is given a primary caregiver to take responsibility for their care routines, settling in, portfolio and developmental updates.

Charter with Ministry of Education

Feathers have negotiated a charter with the Ministry of Education. This means:

  • We follow the Ministry of Education (1996) Te Whariki-Early Childhood Curriculum.
  • We receive bulk funding from the Ministry.
  • We are monitored by the Education Review Office.

Copies of all these documents are held at the centre and you’re welcome to read it.

Separate rooms for under and over twos

The children at Feathers Early Learning Centre are usually divided into two groups – one for babies to two-year-olds and the other for children from three to five years old. Each group has their own indoor and outdoor areas.

Under-2 Room

Here the focus is on caregiving in a safe, secure environment. Each child has a primary caregiver devoted to responding to their physical and emotional needs. We encourage exploration and self-help skills.

Over-2 Room

Here we offer lots of fun activities and looking after ourselves and each other. Children are encouraged and guided to extend their learning and we undertake outings to connect learning to real life experience. Towards the end of this period, we concentrate on school readiness to smooth your child’s transition into school.
